Troop 123 November & December Updates

In the next few weeks the troop will be working on the sustainability and cooking merit badges. We have our second Webelo open house and our winter court of honor.

Due to the increasing COVID-19 cases we are making some changes to our plans. As we have said in the past, we will need to make adjustments as necessary until we get through this health emergency.

  1. We are changing our Court of Honor date to Sunday, December 6. We will be holding the Court outside at Selby Park at 2:00. This allows us to maintain better social distancing with the larger number of people and having it in the early afternoon gives us the advantage of daylight. The weather is very unpredictable this time of year so be prepared for anything! We should have it wrapped up in under an hour. (maybe quicker if the weather is adverse.) Since we will have the Court of Honor on the 6th, we will not have a meeting Monday, December 7.
  2. We are changing our campout location for December. We originally planned on visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland but since COVID-19 cases are trending up, we will have a traditional outdoor campout rather than be inside all day Saturday. We will be camping at Otter Run. This is a small scout camp outside of Marysville. We will continue working on the Cooking merit badge among other activities. The date is the same, December 11 to 13.

The Blue Star Mothers, who were meeting the first Monday of every month, were kind enough to let us take their space at Sharon Hall for our Troop meetings. While they were quite happy to move their meeting, they did ask us for some help. At the Troop meeting on November 2, we requested the Scouts write a letter to a military service person. Rather than addressing letters to an individual they asked that these letters should be addressed to Hero or Soldier. They would like them to express appreciation for their service to our country and how what they do benefits the rest of us. These letters will be put in with care packages that are regularly sent to our service people all over the world by the Blue Star Mothers. This is not a requirement, but we feel it is a great way for our scouts to “do a good turn daily” Please turn in letters to Mr. Rob Fann, and he will make sure they get where they need to go.

If further changes come an email will go out.
